Toyota Mobility Foundation Names Innovators in Clean Freight as Detroit Winners (April 23, 2026)
The Toyota Mobility Foundation and the City of Detroit announced three winners of the Sustainable Cities Challenge on April 23, 2026, concluding a three-year competition to accelerate sustainable urban mobility solutions in Detroit's Eastern Market.
The three winning companies are Civilized Cycles, an electric cargo vehicle manufacturer scaling ultra-light semi-trikes for last-mile delivery; ElectricFish Energy, deploying a 400 kilowatt battery-integrated fast charger for EV fleets; and Neology, a clean energy startup demonstrating ammonia-to-hydrogen power systems with over ten live demonstrations producing 300 kilowatt-hours of clean energy.
Each winner previously received $180,000 in implementation funding and will now share $1.5 million to scale their solutions. Detroit is the only Western Hemisphere city chosen for the Challenge, alongside Venice, Italy and Varanasi, India. The Toyota Mobility Foundation has invested a cumulative $9 million across all three cities.
