Episode 35 of The PuckPedia Hockey Show has a very special guest on, Colby Cohen from ESPN and Daily Faceoff.

We get into it right away as Colby gives us insight into how Colby met John Buccigross and how their relationship evolved and he got into his current role doing the Frozen Four each year (2:00). We touch on Jonathan Quick’s career as he just played his last game on Monday and how the Rangers celebrated his career (5:00).

Then we dive into Colby’s hockey career, how he got drafted in the NHL by the Colorado Avalanche in 2007, then winning a national championship with BU in 2009, before playing his 3 NHL games with the Avs in 2010 (9:00).

Then we dive into the NCAA Frozen Four this past weekend in Las Vegas, and how Denver University and Coach David Carle has won his third national championship as Head Coach in the last 5 years (14:00). We also talk about how the NCAA shot down all of the content plans that Spittin’ Chiclets had set up and it was better for them to buy their own tickets than go the media credentials route.

Then we talk through Colby’s current career, and how he balances watching all of this hockey for his Morning Cuppa Hockey show, but also how he has to ramp up watching NCAA Hockey as the Frozen Four approaches (20:00). Colby’s schedule ramps down in the summers and he’s able to spend a lot of family time down at the Jersey Shore.

Then we transition to the NHL Playoffs, Colby paid close attention to the Flyers so we dive deep into their season and how they made the playoffs (27:00). Porter Martone has made a big impact right away, and there’s been a constant discourse between Rick Tocchet and Matvei Michkov all season.

We also dive into Trevor Zegras’s next contract and what the numbers will look like as Zegras is an RFA this off-season (33:00). We touch on the other juggernauts of the Eastern Conference like the Tampa Bay Lightning, Buffalo Sabres, and Carolina Hurricanes.

Then we transition to the Western Conference (40:00) and talk about the powerhouses in the Central Division (Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars, and Minnesota Wild). We also talk about a couple of big injuries with Cale Makar and Leon Draisaitl. Then we wrap up talking about Colby’s current roles compared to his past role working for a team (48:00).
